What goes into the rankings
Defenders are ranked on what we expect them to do next season rather than what they did last season, which over a dynasty horizon tends to be the more useful signal. Role, snap share and pass-rush pressure layer on top, along with age curves reflecting how defenders actually age — gradually, and later than skill-position players. One thing worth knowing as you read the cornerback board: quarterbacks tend to avoid the best coverage corners, so fantasy production and reputation often point in different directions. These rankings follow the production.
Why the public board is positional
Defensive settings vary more than offensive ones, and two of them decide relative value.
Lineup shape comes first. Some leagues start two defenders, some start eleven; some require a lineman and two linebackers, some leave every slot open. Add league size and you get wildly different replacement levels — the twentieth-best linebacker is a weekly starter in one league and a bench player in another, and that alone changes what he’s worth against an edge rusher.
Scoring is the other. Tackle-weighted and sack-weighted leagues effectively invert the defensive board, and bonuses for tackles for loss, turnovers or big plays move it further.
Which linebacker is better doesn’t change across any of that. That’s the question this board answers.
